Heineken, which is the third largest brewing group in the world and Europe’s number one beer producer, entered the Czech market in 2003 with the acquisition of Starobrno a.s.
Heineken N.V. acquired Královský pivovar Krušovice from the Radeberger Gruppe KG in the middle of 2007. This transaction increased Heineken’s market share to 8% thereby making it number three on the Czech market.
The conditions required by law for the acquisition of Drinks Union a.s. were fulfilled in 2008 and Heineken thereby further strengthened its position on the Czech market: with 12% market share Heineken remains number three but has great potential for further growth in the local market and has become one of the most important beer exporters.
In 2009 the Boards of Directors of Královský pivovar Krušovice a.s. and STAROBRNO, a.s. resolved to merge the companies, resulting in STAROBRNO, a.s. being dissolved without liquidation and its assets being transferred to Královský pivovar Krušovice a.s.
In 2010, the Board of directors of Heineken Česká republika, a.s., established in U Pivovaru 1, 270 53 Krušovice and Drinks Union, a.s., established in Drážďanská 80, 400 07 Ústí nad Labem decided by the merger by incorporation, which caused the dissolution of the company Drinks Union a.s. without liquidation and its assets transferred to Heineken Česká republika, a.s.
